Union MNRE Minister Pralhad Joshi has emphasized the importance of increasing the efficiency of solar projects, reducing costs, and developing energy storage solutions.
He urged stakeholders to focus on integration with smart technologies and noted that the growth of the solar industry would boost economic development.
Mr Joshi also highlighted the progress made by India in this area, citing the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which is expected to create approximately 17 lakh direct jobs across various sectors. India has reduced solar tariffs by 76% under the PM’s leadership.
Traditional solar panels convert 15-20% of sunlight into electricity, but innovations like bifacial panels are increasing efficiency.
New technologies make solar installations more practical and cost-effective. For instance, new storage technologies are crucial for securing a constant solar energy supply, enhancing grid reliability and power quality, Mr Joshi said.
“The integration of smart technologies is revolutionizing how we manage energy consumption, allowing homeowners to monitor their energy usage in real-time using Internet of Things (IoT) devices and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Joshi stressed the need to maximize efficiency while contributing to a more sustainable energy ecosystem,” he said.
India will also be training over 3.25 lakh youth in rooftop solar installation, enabling young people to pursue careers in the solar industry and promote entrepreneurship in their communities, Mr Joshi said.
