Green signal for two hydro-electric projects of 426 MW in Arunachal Pradesh

The Union Cabinet has approved two hydro electric power projects totaling investments of Rs. 3689 crore in
Arunachal Pradesh.

The cabinet has approved the investment proposal for the 186 MW Tato-I Hydro Electric Project (HEP) and the 240 MW Heo Hydro Electric Project, which will cost Rs. 1939 crore and Rs. 1750 crore, respectively. Arunachal Pradesh’s Shi Yomi District is home to both projects. The projects are scheduled to be completed in fifty months.

The projects will be executed by a joint venture company between the Arunachal Pradesh government and North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd. (NEEPCO).

With an installed capacity of 186 MW (3 x 62 MW), the Tato-I Hydro-Electric Project would generate 802 million units (MU) of energy. The power produced by the project will strengthen Arunachal Pradesh’s power supply position and balance the national grid.

Along with Rs. 120.43 cr in Central Financial Assistance for the State’s equity share, the first project will receive Rs. 77.37 cr in central government budgetary support for the construction of roads, bridges, and related transmission lines.

With an installed capacity of 240 MW (3 x 80 MW), the second project, the Heo Hydro Electric Project, would generate 1000 million units (MU) of energy. and would be given budgetary support of Rs. 127.28 crore.

Each project would contribute 1% to the Local Area Development Fund (LADF) and 12% free power to the state.
